Just a quick general announcement.

You folks work harder than anyone I know, but if one of you happens to have skills in another department, for example: say at home you fly a spaceship and you know how to work laser canons; this is just me encouraging you to spend one day a week in another department refining that skill. Just in case we were to suddenly lose a whole bunch of crew, I'd like you guys to have the skills to keep this ship functioning.

If you need to schedule a day or two a week off to get this training in, we can work it out so there's always a couple of people in comms. I urge you to seriously consider this, maybe take it as an opportunity to broaden your horizons.

That said, if you're already pulling two jobs, or doing crucial work for the department, consider yourself exempted. It was just easier to send a message to all of you.

Are you capable of baking? Cakes and the like? Forgive me if the question is impetuous and sudden...

It's no trouble. I do have some skill at baking. And more time here to indulge it than at home.

Might you know a basic recipe for cakes that a Mademoiselle and I might try in the kitchens?

I know quite a few. Do you have a particular flavour in mind? It's a simple matter to customize it.

To All Communications Officers:

We’re shorthanded again. If you can’t make it in for your shifts, please let me know, by public message if necessary. If you don’t arrive within an hour of the beginning of a scheduled shift, we’ll be sending someone to look for you, so don’t be careless: a lack of communication will put those people in unnecessary danger. Obviously, you should still get to Medbay if you need to.

It would also be best if we can have two people in Comms at all times, especially if one of them is experiencing more severe symptoms. This is an attempt to ensure that everyone in urgent need of medical attention receives it as soon as possible. I’ll be there most of the time, but I’ll need to sleep now and then. Aside from the usual, I’d like everyone to keep a particular eye out for subnetwork activity.

Please visit Nathan in Medbay if you have the chance. He may be lucid.

Finally, please let me know if you received this in error. It’s important that it reaches its intended recipient.

[OOC: Department is down to 5, which is plenty, but I know some of the characters are skiving to go do other things and at least one or two are still pretty ill. This is only going to the people who aren’t already calling in sick, as per our discussion last week. Note that the mods’ “no NPC help” means that there will not be actual subnetwork activity to notice -- the characters don’t know that, so they’d be looking for it. Also, Nathan won’t be up for visitors: he’ll be gone as of the jump, which I was unaware of when I wrote this up! Still, it's the thought that counts.]

That's bad. What happened to him is extremely painful.

[It's not like he hasn't had personal reasons to research it in detail, but then there had also been the agony of that memory of the girl and the water -- it's haunting and he tries his best to shake it off. He never wants to feel it again, and never wants it to happen to anyone he likes, and this is a stronger inclination than it was before his time on the ship.]

Ryuuzaki here. I've received an invitation from Smiley with very short notice -- I'll be gone for a while.

I'm assuming this will be relatively safe, because I'm going by invitation, not as part of an incursion, and I'm assuming that I'll be back before the next jump. That said, I don't have any more specific schedule than that, and it's very possible that I won't be able to talk explicitly about anything that's happened when I get back.

I'll tell you what I can when I can.

I know you'll have things in hand during my absence.
